What Is a Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM)?

If your Range Rover Sport won’t recognize its key, won’t start, or has stopped unlocking automatically as you approach, the most likely cause is a faulty Keyless Vehicle Module, the KVM. It’s one of the most common electronic faults we see on the Range Rover Sport, and thankfully, one of the most straightforward to put right when it’s diagnosed correctly.

The KVM is the component responsible for detecting your key fob’s signal and communicating with the vehicle’s immobilizer and locking system. When it works properly, you barely notice it, your Range Rover Sport unlocks as you approach and starts at the push of a button. When it fails, the whole keyless system can stop working overnight, even if your key itself is fine.

Signs Your Range Rover Sport KVM Has Failed

  • A “smart key not found” or “key not detected” warning on the dashboard
  • Keyless entry no longer unlocking the doors
  • The vehicle failing to recognize a key that worked yesterday
  • Intermittent faults that come and go, especially after cold weather or a flat battery

If you’ve already tried a new key battery and the fault persists, the KVM is the next place to look.

Why the KVM Fails on the Range Rover Sport

These modules are exposed to years of vibration, moisture and general wear, and on the Range Rover Sport in particular, they’re known to develop faults as the vehicle ages. It isn’t usually a sign you’ve done anything wrong — it’s a known weak point on this model.

Our Mobile KVM Supply & Programming Service

We come to you — home, work, or roadside — with a genuine replacement KVM already in hand, along with the Land Rover software needed to program it and your keys to the vehicle. Most jobs are completed on-site in under an hour, with no towing and no dealership appointment required.

How Much Does a Range Rover Sport KVM Replacement Cost?

Pricing depends on your exact model year and key type, but our quotes are fixed and transparent from the outset — no surprise charges on the day. Call us and we’ll give you an accurate price over the phone before we book you in.

Why Choose a Mobile Specialist Over a Land Rover Dealer

Dealers often need to order parts and book you in days or weeks in advance, sometimes requiring your car to be towed in. We carry the parts and diagnostic software to complete the whole job in one visit, usually at a lower cost than dealer pricing.

Areas We Cover

We operate a mobile service across England, Wales and some parts of Scotland, bringing the workshop to you rather than the other way round.
